MEXICAN PAINTINGS

This report is about three Mexican paintings, the background of the authors, the styles, etc. I started my internet survey about Mexican art, because in the Academic English Class, we were learning about art, and I really like Mexican Art.

As a result of my internet survey, I found three interesting paintings from Diego Rivera, Rufino Tamayo and Frida Kahlo.

Firstly, Arbol de la esperanza, mantente firme by Frida Kahlo.

Frida Kahlo was a Mexican painter, who was born in Coyoacan in 1907.During her life; she suffered a lot, because of a terrible illness and an accident. After that her health was really bad and she was in bed all the time.

In all her paintings, she expresses all the bad things that happened in her life. Also she expresses her feelings about her husband, her illness, family, friends, etc.

In this painting we see two Fridas, one of Fridas who has just been rolled of the operation room and the other is the forceful and confident Frida.

The painting is divided into two halves, one day and one night. The bleeding body is assigned to the sun and the other is assigned to the moon.

I really like this painting because she expresses a terrible stage in her life, but at the same time she encourages herself to be strong about this situation. We should learn to be strong, and beat all our problems, in order to have a better life and to be happy.

The bad situations that happen in our life, we must see them as a challenge to be beaten.

 Secondly, Cabeza by Rufino Tamayo.

Rufino Tamayo was a famous painter, who was born in Oaxaca in 1899. Then, when his mother died she started to live in Mexico City, and there, he started to paint.

He was a teacher in the National Arts School in Mexico and he traveled  a lot in order to exhibit all his paintings.

In this painting we can see an abstract representation of the head and the brain. The main color in the painting is red, because it represents blood.

I like this painting, because is very abstract, and tries to represent something that we as humans have but we cannot touch and feel.

It is really interesting to know how other people imagine and express his ideas about subjective things.

Finally, La sangre de los martires revolucionarios, fertilizando la tierra by Diego Rivera.

Diego Rivera was born in Guanajuato in 1886, he started to paint at a very early age, and then he went to study in Spain, France and an others European countries. The main purpose of Diego Rivera’s paintings was representing the facts, ideas and hopes of the Mexican revolution.

In this painting we can see kind of graves of the Mexican martyrs, who participated in the Mexican revolution. The thing that calls my attention was a window with the shape of a flower, it is really good.

And in the top of the painting we can see the sky, the ground, plants, tress, etc.

I like this painting, because Diego Rivera was a very patriotic person, he loved Mexico and he made this painting in order to show the whole world, what was happening in Mexico at this time and I really like the history of Mexico.

As I said before, I love Mexican art; we have very good painters and our culture is amazing.

As a result of this survey, I learnt more about these famous artists and more about styles in painting. After this survey, I am really interested in following Mexican art.
