TIDAL POWER

Technology exploits all kind of resources, which can be find in nature or made by people, the tidal power is one of them.

The tidal power is a system, which works with the tides of a river and its main function is to generate energy. The main structure consists of a barrage which crosses the river, and when the tides rises, the gate which was installed before opens and allows water to get in and increases the water level. The force of the flow turns some turbines and these generate electricity, that procedure occurs four times every day, it depends of the area.

As all kind of systems, we should look the advantages and disadvantages in order to evaluate them.

Firstly, the tidal power does not generate trash and bad gases which affect the atmosphere, can be used several times.

 On the other hand, the disadvantages are also important to consider. The tidal power does not generate enough energy as we require or to satisfy our basic necessities, the environment and the wild life are affected.

The amount of salt in the river water increases, it affects aquatic animals and the bird’s habitat is destroyed also, their life conditions are not optimal. Finally, the people who live in the area, the area economy and the fishing boat are affected.
